ANASTATICA

Performance by Moran Sanderovich

Thursday, 2 June 2022, 5.30 – 6 PM & 7.30 – 8 PM
Rathausvorplatz / Town Hall Square & Galerie Wedding

In ANASTATICA wounds and traumas act as portals, enabling a human evolution that relies on the fantastic potential of "new" and "other" bodies and develops beyond the normative and binary. ANASTATICA describes abnormal bodies as supernatural that draw power from their otherness, all the while asking questions about the never-ending cycle of victim and victimiser within systems of patriarchal violence.

Moran Sanderovich

Moran Sanderovich (b. 1980 in Israel-Palestine) is a Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist. Her artistic practices include performance, sculpture, installations and drawings. In her work Sanderovich investigates the boundaries of the body, and follows transformations caused by trauma. She creates fantastic, unwieldy worlds populated by beings that look both familiar and grotesque, gracious and frightening, primordial and futuristic, organic and artificial, between dead and alive. She combines natural and artificial materials. The fictional characters the artist creates remind us of fairytales and mythologies depicting stories of abnormal, supernatural bodies. Sanderovich studied at the school of visual theatre in Jerusalem. Her works have been shown in various museums such as the GRIMMWELT museum in Kassel (DE), the Jewish Museum in Frankfurt (DE), the GL Holtegaard Museum in Copenhagen (DK), the Kunsten Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg (DK) and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem (IL). She also collaborates with different theatres such as Maxim Gorki in Berlin and performs in performance festivals as well as exhibits in galleries around the world.
